Evaluation Criteria for GM-PV Power Plant

The title of my thesis is: GIS-based site evaluation for ground-mounted photovoltaic systems in Bavaria.

When selecting a site, we take many factors into account, such as potential solar radiation, topography and distance to power lines.

In this survey, various influencing factors are listed and divided into two levels. These factors are compared in pairs within their respective levels and rated according to their importance. The aim is to determine the relative importance of these factors so that an informed decision can be made on the optimal location of the PV system using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP).

There are 17 questions in this survey.
This survey is anonymous.

The record of your survey responses does not contain any identifying information about you, unless a specific survey question explicitly asked for it.

If you used an identifying access code to access this survey, please rest assured that this code will not be stored together with your responses. It is managed in a separate database and will only be updated to indicate whether you did (or did not) complete this survey. There is no way of matching identification access codes with survey responses.

Comparison of level 1 criteria

Please rate the importance of the following factors in comparison to each other.

This scale is designed to help you accurately rate the relative importance of the factors. Please select the appropriate rating for each pairing of factors.

Please compare the importance of "Solar energy potential" and "Topographical factors"

The solar potential here is measured by the Global Horizontal Irradiation (GHI)

The "Topographical factors" take into account sub-criteria of "slope" and "orientation".

Use only one of the two options, check the "no answer" box for the other option.

"Solar energy potential" is is more important than "Topographical factors"
"Topographical factors" is more important than "Solar energy potential"

Please compare the importance of "Solar energy potential" and "Techno-Economic Factors"

The following sub-criteria are taken into account for the criteria "Techno-Economic Factors": Distance to transmission lines, substation, residential areas and road network.

"Solar Energy Potential" is more important than "Techno-Economic Factors"

Comparison of level 2 criteria

Please compare the importance of the sub-criteria "Slope" and "Aspect" under the criterion "Topographical factors"

When constructing a PV system, it is generally accepted that the ground should not be too steeply sloped and should preferably face south.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 No answer
"Slope" is is more important than "Aspect"
"Aspect" is more important than "Slope"

Please compare the importance of the sub-criteria "Distance to transmission lines" and "Distance to substation"

e.g. the closer a PV system is to a transmission line, the better, and the closer it is to a substation, the better.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 No answer
"Distance to transmission lines" is more important than "Distance to substation"
"Distance to substation" is more important than "Distance to transmission lines"

Please compare the importance of the sub-criteria "Distance to transmission lines" and "Distance to residential area"

The closer the residential area is, the lower the transmission losses usually are. To protect residents from interference from PV systems, a buffer distance of at least 100 metres is established in this situation.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 No answer
"Distance to transmission lines" is more important than "Distance to residential area"
"Distance to residential area" is more important than "Distance to transmission lines"

Please compare the importance of the sub-criteria "Distance to transmission lines" and "Distance to road network"

The proximity to the road facilitates the installation of the PV system and subsequent maintenance.

"Distance to transmission lines" is more important than "Distance to road network"
"Distance to road network" is more important than "Distance to transmission lines"

"Distance to residential area" is more important than "Distance to road network"
"Distance to road network" is more important than "Distance to residential area"
Land cover type for PV

Please rate the suitability for the construction of photovoltaic systems on the following types of land.

1 is least suitable, 9 is very suitable.

In Bavaria, ground-mounted photovoltaic systems in "agriculturally disadvantaged areas" can receive funding. Disadvantaged agricultural areas are defined as mountainous areas and areas in which there is a risk of farming being abandoned due to unfavourable site or production conditions.

According to the EEG, the construction of ground-mounted photovoltaic systems on drained and agriculturally utilised peatland is eligible for funding, provided that these areas have been permanently rewetted. This does not apply to peatland within legally protected areas.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 No answer

Grassland in disadvantaged areas
Arable land in disadvantaged areas
